Art Statement

Caitlin M Schlemmer’s work is clean and simple but backed by research and thought with a high attention to detail. Her work is focused on layout design and color theory. Schlemmer believes works should be based on the history of the subject and that imagery is powerful, so her design work starts there.

 

As a young child Schlemmer spent her time coloring with crayons, which she now knows was the beginning of her designing journey. As she chose colors she projected them onto the page in her mind and poured over each illustration till she chose the best scene to bring to life. She won many coloring contests in elementary school with her craft of staying in the lines and making pigments opaque.

 

With her background in not only graphic design, but also sculpture, printmaking, drawing, and art history she brings her knowledge into her designs. Her goal is to make simple, clean works that bring life to a page and convey the prescribed emotions of a subject.
